Commisions are a great way for me to work on ideas that would otherwise not occur to me. Additionally its the most durable approach to my practice as a painter. Based in Barcelona I work on assignments for clients around the globe.

"Violenstraat"
Located on Violenstraat, a former school building in Groningen was transformed into living quarters. In late 2021, I was commissioned by the building owner to create a display that pays homage to the building's history and personal significance to the client. The challenge was to showcase the nearby main traffic road that was frequently used by the client during their student days to reach the city center.
To get the right perspective of the building and road without renting a drone, I used a combination of satellite images, photographic references, and found drone footage. The satellite image's digital rendering quality provided an opportunity to create an abstract surrounding using gestural markings, resulting in a playful dance of shapes resembling the city.
Key features of the surrounding area were rendered in detail to provide context, and I slightly enlarged the building, adding more intricate details. I also colored the windows to convey life and activity within the building.
The final work was backlit and stretched over a lightbox, hanging in the building for all the inhabitants to see daily.
-custom build wooden lightbox
-backlit canvas print 130 x 80 cm
€1000,-
